  • Better Care Insight Sharing Day | 14 July 2022

    In the July Better Care Insight Day, attendees enjoyed presentations from Early Career Colleagues on ongoing Better Care work including monitoring the safety of AI interventions, improving the prescribing of anti-cholinergic medications in older people, the management of care home residents through the pandemic and patterns of mortality in the CPRD dataset.  We also heard from colleagues at the Health Foundation about the work the Networked Data Lab has been going on mental health in young people and finally discussed the role of Regional Networks (aligned to NHS structures) to support implementation and adoption of research in practice.

    Better Care Insight Sharing Day | 24 February 2022

    This quarterly Better Care Insights Sharing Day heard about the progress made by teams working across the UK. Attendees were informed about and discussed issues of far-reaching significance from public and patient engagement and involvement (PPIE) to the challenges of using health data in biomedical research.

    Better Care Insight Sharing Day | 21 October 2021

    This quarter our Insight day showcased some of the great work being run through HDR UK North and Southwest. The talks cover key issues relevant to the NHS as we enter the winter including managing secondary care capacity and frailty in the elderly. Attendees enjoyed a showcase on training to support Better Care including the use of the HDR UK Futures platform and gaming as an accessible and engaging route for skills development.

    Better Care Insight Sharing Day | 01 July 2021

    The July Better Care Insight Sharing Days looked at the latest developments in Health Data Research UK’s (HDR UK) four-nations drive to find innovative ways to use data to enable clinicians and patients make the best decisions about healthcare. The event outlined some of the Better Care initiative’s overall achievements and considered the programme for the next five years, before taking a deeper dive into the advances being made by specific problems, including a special focus on work from the Midlands.

    Better Care Insight Sharing Day | 14 January 2021

    In the third of our Better Care Insights Sharing meetings, more than 80 participants gathered to discuss how the Better Care approach is being delivered in practice to embed the use of large-scale data and advanced analytics in routine care. Discussions centred largely around the 6th step of the Better Care loop ‘scale’ with the strong themes emerging around the value of team science and the need for improved interoperability.

    Better Care Insight Sharing Day | 16 July 2020

    On 16 July 2020, HDR UK held the first Better Care Insight Sharing Day.  The event brought together the broader HDR UK Better Care Community and provided an opportunity to share learnings and insights, identify opportunities for collaboration and consider how we can accelerate and enable the Better Care approach.  The meeting demonstrated key areas where teams are progressing our vision of embedding the use of large scale data and advanced analytics to enhance and improve health and care and considered the opportunities and barriers in this area.

  • Applied social care research using routine data – potential and challenges | 10 December 2020

    On 10 December 2020, over 150 members of the social care data science community – including academic researchers, care providers and receivers, commissioners, and charities – came together virtually to discuss the current landscape of applied social care research.

    Attendees shared experiences of significant insights and impacts which have already been realised by research across the spectrum of social care services, as well as the key challenges which must be addressed to maximise impact and emerging opportunities for the future.

    The meeting was convened by Health Data Research UK and the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) West, a member of the Better Care South-West Partnership.

    Patient-Reported Outcomes for Better Care | 23 November 2020

    On 23 November 2020 the HDR UK Better Care community held a workshop in collaboration with the Trials Methodology Research Partnership (TMRP).  The event considered the opportunity to embed Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) in routine practice.  Attendees from clinical, academic and patient communities considered the key opportunities to use PROs to improve both care and research and the challenges for implementation and began development of a roadmap for next steps.  Follow up events are planned and please contact Alice Turnbull or Paula Williamson if you would like more details or would be interested in attending.
