Our next monthly webinar entitled ‘How plain is your English?’ takes place on Wednesday 24th January 2024, 12:00-12:24pm, online.

Join us for a special one-off session as we explore plain English summaries and the importance of patient and public involvement.

We’ll be discussing best practice for developing plain English summaries from a funder’s perspective and hearing from an experienced public contributor, who will share their thoughts on the importance of plain English and the art of effectively communicating with the public and key concept of defining your audience for maximum impact.

This month’s presenter is John Walsh, a public contributor and long-standing member of the BHF Data Science Centre Public Advisory Group.

John is a retired chartered engineer who survived a heart attack in 1995. As a result of John’s experience, he became interested in cardiology and joined his local Community Health Council. In 2003 he was elected as the chair of the British Heart Foundation’s very first Patient Advisory Group. Since then, John has been involved with the Department of Health, NICE, NIHR and elsewhere.

The webinar and Q & A session will be chaired by BHF Data Science Centre’s Patient & Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Manager, Samaira Khan.

These webinars are primarily for researchers but may be of interest to many attendees. People from all backgrounds are equally welcome and we try to use non-technical language wherever possible.
