Professor Emsley is a Consultant Neurologist at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Professor of Clinical Neuroscience at Lancaster University.
His specialist clinical interest is in vascular neurology. His research expertise is in neurology, cerebrovascular disease and the neurovascular-neurodegenerative interface, and increasingly, the applications of routine healthcare data in neurology.
External responsibilities include his role as Honorary Public Health Clinical Academic with the Department of Health & Social Care.
He has well over 150 publications in peer-reviewed medical journals (h-index 40) and regularly engages in peer-review and editorial work.
He serves as chief investigator or local principal investigator and as a research supervisor on a range of NIHR portfolio and independent studies in stroke and neurological disorders.
