Mark Parsons
Mark Parsons is the Director of EPCC, the supercomputing centre at The University of Edinburgh where he is also the Dean of Research Computing. Following a PhD in Particle Physics at CERN, he joined EPCC as a junior programmer in 1994. For many years he was EPCC’s Commercial Director, leading countless collaborative projects with industry built on EPCC’s expertise in high performance computing and data science. In 2015, EPCC agreed to host the Scottish National Safe Haven for NHS Scotland. This small activity has now grown into a large-scale trusted research environment. Since 2020, he has worked part-time for UKRI as EPSRC’s Director of Research Computing. In this role he leads the UK’s Exascale Supercomputer Project
