Mavis is a social scientist with interests in understanding health and data-related inequalities. She obtained a PhD in Health Studies at King’s College London and combines expertise in research on health and genomic data governance, a midwifery background and her own lived experience navigating the health system. Mavis is particularly interested in questions about what data categorisation and data collection and data-driven systems can tell us about inequities and the experiences of different members of society. She currently works as a Senior Researcher at the Ada Lovelace Institute interrogating the data divide in data-driven systems. She is also co-founder of GeneticsEngage, a platform to encourage and engage in issues of diversity and inclusivity in genomics.
