Launching the International COVID-19 Data Research Alliance and Workbench

The COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator has provided Health Data Research UK with a grant to establish an ‘International COVID-19 Data Research Alliance and Workbench’ to help respond to the global COVID-19 challenge. This exciting new endeavour will provide an environment for collaborative research and enable more insights to be developed from data related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the longer-term, it will enable scientific discovery to respond to future disease outbreaks.

Vital data and research projects searchable via new developments in online health data portal

Health Data Research UK has launched the next phase of the Health Data Research Innovation Gateway which allows researchers and innovators to find information and descriptions about more than 440 health datasets and request access to them. As well as the ability to search for research projects, publications and health data tools the Innovation Gateway has introduced new interactive features such as its community forum to allow users to collaborate and connect with other researchers.

This latest update to the Innovation Gateway comes at a crucial time for health research as health data is becoming central to the national and global COVID-19 challenge.

New health data initiatives that will address major health challenges

Health Data Research UK has launched new innovative data initiatives to ultimately help ensure patients receive the best possible care and services. With two new partnerships announced – one in the North of England and the other in the South West of England – they’ll be focusing on addressing major health challenges such as the management of frailty and exploring an improved system to detect patients at risk of deterioration at an early stage.

Use of health data in the fight against COVID-19

As the national institute for health data, we are championing the use of health data to respond to COVID-19. As well as co-ordinating and connecting national data science research, we’re supporting researchers and innovators to access the data they need and work to address the wider impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ranging from our weekly recommendations to SAGE through to ways in which we can embed the patient and public voice, we’re supporting a number of different projects and areas of work to support the fight against COVID-19.
