It’s a fast-moving multidisciplinary field that draws on ideas from statistical, computational and health science and where some of the sharpest scientific minds are using the UK’s rich sources of large scale data for goals including:

Right now there is a high demand for people, from across the world, to help lead a UK data science revolution. The stepping stones towards a health data science career are:
- A bachelor’s degree in IT, computer science, math, physics, or related field
- A master’s degree in data or related field
- Then gain experience in the field you want to work in such as healthcare, physics or business.
Career paths
After that there are a multitude of career paths that could see you working in industry, the health service or in a university or institutes such as HDR UK.
They include experts in machine learning, data analysis, applications, enterprise, data and infrastructure architecture. Together they are pivotal to teams that are pushing back the frontiers in everything from genomics, biomedical research and wearables to electronic health records and medical imaging.
