HDR UK works with partners worldwide to enable research collaborations that address priority global health challenges. These partnerships build on the following principles and programmes that brought together key stakeholders to identify local health challenges and accelerate progress by using health data research approaches:

  • Equitable global health data research: HDR UK is committed to following approaches and principles that help ensure global health data research is equitable, notably in terms of leadership, participation and who benefits from research studies. This article captures key principles from a recent online discussion with our partner, Agnes Kiragga, based at the African Population and Health Research Center in Kenya, and Kara Hanson, Director of the Global Health Research Programme at the NIHR.
  • International COVID-19 Data Research Alliance (ICODA): This initiative brought together stakeholders and researchers from 19 countries to enable 12 health data research collaborations that provided rapid insights from health data to address the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to over 60 publications, the initiative resulted in health data infrastructure policies, frameworks and policies that are openly available for researchers to adapt and tailor for different contexts and studies.
  • Health Data Research Global: Through this programme, HDR UK worked with partners in Africa, S Asia, Latin America and the UK to enable health data research projects that addressed priority health challenges. This resulted in the development of shared resources covering areas such as equitable and trustworthy approaches to accelerating data access, re-use and analysis. building capabilities in health data infrastructure and data governance for researchers and health practitioners, and empowering researchers to engage and involve communities and policy makersĀ in their research.
