Overview

Neurological conditions are the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide, with over 1 in 3 people affected. This growing global healthcare challenge calls for urgent action.

At Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), we believe that accelerating the trustworthy use of large-scale data assets that are currently fragmented and typically inaccessible to the research and innovation community is essential to unlock urgently needed research breakthroughs into brain health and neurodegenerative diseases. Our Brain Health Partnership programmes aim to build on several existing partnerships to bring greater coherence across a complex range of activities.

Accelerating Brain Health-related research through collaboration

The vision of our Brain Health Partnership programmes is to accelerate trustworthy large-scale data use and empower ambitious, collaborative, neurodegeneration research and innovation, that delivers impact for patients.

We are working to support researchers to go beyond what is currently possible with consented research data resources through increased use of large, routine data assets, including data held across the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).

We work in close partnership with a range of existing dementia and neurodegeneration research data platforms and welcome further opportunities for collaboration and investment, to assemble the partnerships, data, and infrastructure required to meet the needs of the neurodegeneration research and innovation communities.

We work in close partnership with a range of existing dementia and neurodegeneration research data platforms and partners including the UK Dementia Research Institute, Dementias Platform UK, and the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative.  We welcome further opportunities for collaboration and investment, to assemble the partnerships, data, and infrastructure required to meet the needs of the neurodegeneration research and innovation communities.

Partnership Objectives

  1. Accelerate trustworthy data access and use of large-scale data assets, directly aligned to the needs of neurodegeneration researchers and innovators, by connecting existing multi-modal data across the UK and internationally.
  2. Empower novel, ambitious, and collaborative neurodegeneration research and innovation partnerships that accelerate impact for dementia patients, while leaving a data foundation legacy that adds value to the wider neurodegeneration research and innovation system.
  3. Streamline neurodegeneration health data science by convening partners across the neurodegeneration research data landscape to align and promote convergence towards common standards, reducing complexity across a fragmented landscape.
