Stuart is a Training Lead for HDR UK’s Inflammation and Immunity Research Driver Programme.

His 20-year career in biomedical science has spanned a PhD in Developmental Neuroscience at Cardiff, Wales. A post- doctorate at University College London, focused on the pre-clinical validation of new treatments for perinatal brain injury, and an early phase clinical trial. A four-year move to Toronto, focused on research into stem cell treatments for cerebral palsy, before moving into interdisciplinary work within osteoarthritis.

At Oxford Stuart has been the strategic head and operations manager for the innovation policy think tank – Centre for the Advancement of Sustainable Medical Innovation (CASMI). Here he co-led a variety of interdisciplinary consultancy and policy projects looking at the multi-stakeholder dimensions of enablers and barriers to sustainable medical innovation in healthcare, including the UK’s Accelerated Access Review. Stuart has co-led work across large EU private-public consortia on Adaptive Pathways for medicines development (ADAPTSMART) and Enhancing sustainable patient engagement across the life cycle of medicine development (PARADIGM).

Stuart’s work continues in the department of Primary Healthcare Sciences at Oxford University where he was program manager across a number of research projects on the changing face of remote access to primary care, and now is a senior programme manager for the HDR UK funded Inflammation and Immunity Driver Programme. Stuart also co-leads and teaches on an MSc in Translational Health Sciences.

Stuart continues to be involved in various consortia and advisory capacities including; Improving patient access to advanced therapeutic medicinal products (Transform Alliance), Enhancing EU-China collaborations in precision medicine (IC2PerMEd), and the Patient Engagement Open Forum (PEOF).
