Somto is completing her fourth year of medical school at Newcastle University. She has grown to be incredibly passionate about innovation in medicine and spent the last few years running and leading health tech and innovation-focused programmes as part of Newcastle’s Medicine and Technology Society.
Somto cares about innovation and all it brings with it including the research that is often needed to measure its impact. Having done some qualitative research in the past, she is looking forward to learning more quant skills and data-science techniques that will not only be essential to the social/real-world project she will be working on but also give her a deeper understanding of statistics. Proficiency in numbers will place Smote in a better position and allow her to confidently interpret and apply evidence to treat the patients she looks after in the future.
