Sarah qualified as a pharmacist in Egypt in 2013. After moving to the UK, she completed her master’s in pharmacology at the University of Hertfordshire, graduating with distinction.

She has always been curious about why people respond differently to the same medications and diseases. During her master’s, Sarah discovered how bioinformatics and data modelling could be used to explore these differences, which sparked her interest in health data science.

After having a second child, she took a career break to focus on family. During this time, Sarah taught herself Python and explored health data further. As a mother living in the UK and surrounded by women from different backgrounds, she became particularly interested in women’s health, especially preeclampsia, its connection to kidney disease, and how outcomes may differ across ethnic groups.

Sarah is grateful to HDR UK and Kidney Research UK for supporting her master’s and her return from a career break. She is excited to begin her MSc in health data analytics and machine learning at Imperial College London, and her plan is to pursue a PhD in the same field afterwards, as she believes research can make a real difference in people’s lives globally.
