Mark Arends trained in Medicine and Pathology at University of Edinburgh and became Senior Lecturer there in 1995. He moved to the University of Cambridge in 1999, becoming Reader in Histopathology, he specialised in and was the lead for gastrointestinal pathology (including lead pathologist for the bowel cancer screening programme for the East of England) and gynaecological pathology. Mark developed specialist expertise in the pathology of cancer syndromes, gastrointestinal and inflammatory bowel disease pathology. In 2013 he moved to University of Edinburgh as Professor of Pathology, Head of the Division of Pathology and Director of Centre for Comparative Pathology.
