Kamlesh Khunti is Professor of Primary Care Diabetes and Vascular Medicine at the University of Leicester, UK. He has led a programme of work during the Covid-19 pandemic and is a member of UK Governments Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) and Chair of the SAGE Ethnicity Sub-panel. Professor Khunti is also Director for NIHR Global Health research Centre for Multiple Long Term conditions, Director of the UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) in Applied Research Collaborations (ARC) East Midlands, Director of Centre for Ethnic Health Research and Director of The Real World Evidence Unit. He is named as Top Type 2 diabetes researcher globally by Expertscape. He has published over 1200 peer-reviewed articles. He is also Honorary Visiting Professorial Fellow with Department of General Practice, University of Melbourne. He has won numerous awards nationally and internationally and was awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2022 New Year’s Honour’s List for services to health.
Kamlesh is also Co-Chair of the Alliance Diversity in Data special interest group on ethnicity coding standards. The aim of this working group is to bring together expert communities to address challenges and opportunities around the use of ethnicity data in research. Read more here.
