I am a health data scientist with a background in pharmacy, graduating with first-class honours in my undergraduate degree and recently completing a Master of Public Health with a specialism in Data Science, achieving a distinction.

My journey into health data science began during the COVID-19 pandemic when I witnessed the transformative power of data and epidemiology in predicting disease patterns and informing prevention strategies. This experience inspired me to pursue advanced studies in public health and data science.

I joined the HDR UK community through the 2024 Black Internship Programme, where I worked under the mentorship of Dr Rona Strawbridge and Dr Frederick Ho at the University of Glasgow. My internship project focused on advancing an existing research initiative led by Dr Strawbridge, which identified genetic variations linked to schizophrenia, cardiovascular, and metabolic diseases. The project aimed to develop an innovative method to classify individuals into distinct groups based on their metabolic profiles.

A key challenge of the previous method was its reliance on manual classification, which limited its scalability for large-scale studies and clinical applications. To address this, I developed a pipeline using the t-SNE clustering technique, a method for dimensionality reduction and visualisation of high-dimensional data. This automated the grouping process, making it more efficient and applicable to broader datasets.

As an early-career health data scientist, I am passionate about genomic and genetic data research, biomedical innovation, epidemiology, and data science. I am actively seeking opportunities in industry and PhD programmes that align with my professional interests and career aspirations. I am also eager to expand my professional network and collaborate with experts in the field to further my goal of improving population health through data-driven insights.
