Dr Mome Mukherjee is one of the health data scientists in Inflammation and Immunity and a Senior Researcher at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences and affiliated to Kellogg College, University of Oxford.

With experience spanning the University of Edinburgh, NHS Lothian, Public Health Scotland, Mome brings a UK-wide perspective to population-scale electronic health records, health systems, and long-term conditions research.

Mome’s current work focuses on:

  • Quantifying winter NHS pressures in adults with respiratory diseases — tracking the burden of acute respiratory infections (COVID-19, influenza, RSV, pneumonia) in adults with and without chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma, COPD, ILD and bronchiectasis, using large-scale linked primary care, hospital admissions and mortality data for England;
  • Developing prognostic tools – to predict individual-level clinical risk and regional NHS winter demand, enabling GP practices to stratify patients and commissioners to plan resources proactively;
  • Advancing reproducible, open science – designing phenotyping pipelines and statistical methods with the HDR UK four nations ethos, enabling federated replication across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

These priorities are of direct policy relevance: translating findings into deployed tools for NHS stakeholders is a core aim, supporting both proactive care management and regional resource allocation ahead of winter.

Mome shares with us her expertise in:

  • Population-scale routine data analysis across all four UK nations
  • Phenotyping, data harmonisation and reproducible statistical pipeline development
  • Translating epidemiological evidence into applied tools
