Matthew Taylor is a medical student at the University of Birmingham. He recently took a year out to undertake a BMedSc degree in Clinical Sciences at the University, where he gained experience in the fields of large-scale data analytics and machine learning, choosing to investigate the effectiveness of a machine learning tool in the automation of microscope slide image analysis in his dissertation.

Within medicine, he is interested in pursuing a career in ophthalmology. This, combined with a wider interest in the field of artificial intelligence and how it will best be used to improve outcomes for patient healthcare, has lead to his involvement with HDR UK’s INSIGHT Hub at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. He is also a member of the HDR UK Early Career Researcher Committee.
