Lucy Vickers joined HDR UK as the Chief Data Officer in May 2026. Her role is to shape and deliver the Institute’s data strategy, ensuring our infrastructure, platforms, and technologies meet the evolving needs of researchers, clinicians, and innovators. She will define a bold vision for developing well-curated and protected data to accelerate AI-driven research, improve health outcomes, and advance HDR UK’s mission. Central to this role is forging deep collaborations with UK-wide and international partners, industry, and the research community, fostering a culture of openness, innovation, and global leadership in health data science.

Lucy joined HDRUK from the Department of Health and Social Care where she had been Chief Data Officer and Chief Statistician, shaping a data driven culture in DHSC which supports and enhances data science, data analysis and research capabilities. She worked at DHSC for six years, joining during the Covid pandemic to set up and lead the data and analytical function in the Test and Trace Programme, then led Statistics and Data Science before moving to be Chief Data Officer. She previously worked at the Office for National Statistics and other government departments, leading analytical work on health and care; population statistics, administrative data, setting up ONS Data as a Service and the Administrative Data Research Network, the forerunner for ADRUK.
