Louis was attracted to the HDRUK-Turing Wellcome PhD programme due to its multidisciplinary focus, with students coming from a range of academic backgrounds. It was during a work placement year at the MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit that Louis was first introduced to the breadth of electronic health records in Scotland, and the potential insights which might yet be gained from them. This spurred him on to pursue a PhD in health data science.
Louis hopes to explore new topics in statistics and computer science during his foundation year, to find a thesis topic which inspires him.
Louis has an MSci in Statistics from the University of Glasgow, which included a work placement year at the MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit. This introduced him to the potential applications of statistical methods to large administrative datasets.
