PhD Title: Using Routine Health Data to Develop Insights into Childhood Asthma: management, treatment step down, and associations with autism
Liz Moore is a PhD student currently undertaking her doctoral studies at the University of Liverpool within the Inflammation and Immunity Research Driver Programme. Her research focuses on primary care epidemiology, with a particular emphasis on asthma and child health outcomes.
Her work uses large-scale UK electronic healthcare record data to investigate the impact of maternal asthma and its treatment during pregnancy on neurodevelopmental outcomes in children, particularly autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
In addition, Liz examines prescribing practices in paediatric asthma, including patterns of stepping down treatment and the potential effects on exacerbations in children with well-controlled asthma. She is particularly interested in evaluating the real-world implementation of clinical guidelines—such as the 2024 NICE asthma guidelines—and their influence on paediatric outcomes in primary care.
Through her research, she aims to inform safer prescribing practices and improve long-term outcomes for both mothers and children, with a particular focus on understanding how inflammation and immune-related conditions like asthma may influence children’s brain development and risk of ASD.
