Project Title: Investigating health inequities, multimorbidity, and cardiovascular events amongst patients with bronchiectasis
Ms Leah Deshler is a PhD student based at Imperial College London. She is supervised by Professor Jennifer Quint, Co-Lead Investigator of our programme, and Dr Vidya Navaratnam. Her research interests lie in using epidemiological methods to understand inequities within respiratory diseases, with a background in public health, epidemiology, and applied biostatistics.
In her PhD project, Leah aims to:
- Understand potential differences in cardiovascular risk in patients with bronchiectasis by sex, ethnicity, respiratory multimorbidity, and deprivation
- Develop phenotypes within bronchiectasis that can be used for cardiovascular disease risk prediction and exploration of treatment effectiveness
She hopes that her project will help elucidate who is at higher risk of cardiovascular disease amongst patients with bronchiectasis and thereby allow for earlier identification and prevention of disease progression through personalised treatment.
