Joseph Lam is a health data science researcher with expertise across longitudinal population studies and large-scale linked administrative datasets. He specialises in developing and evaluating data linkage frameworks, with a particular focus on equity, transparency, and fairness across ethnic and social groups. His work situates methodological innovation alongside social responsibility, reflecting a commitment to equitable and trustworthy use of data for the public good.

Jo is the Principal Investigator of the Annual Household Income subdivided into Quintiles (AHIQ) project, developing and validating anonymised measures of household income using linked administrative data to study child health inequalities. He holds a secondment with the Office for National Statistics (ONS), and holds a Data Science Officer role with the Data Linkage Hub at NHS England.

He co-chairs the Improving Transparency Around Linkage Outputs (ITALO) national interest group, endorsed by Data and Analytics Research Environments United Kingdom (DARE UK).

Beyond technical contributions, Jo has led sensitive public and policy engagement activities, translating evidence into policy discussions on health equity. He has worked closely with Coram Young Citizens on the use of ethnicity data among refugees and asylum-seeking young people, and contributed to the Lancet Commission on Global Racism and Health. His experience working with NHS England, UK Longitudinal Linkage Collaboration, ECHILD and other core national infrastructure datasets underlines his ability to bridge technical complexity with issues of public trust.
