Jiya is a natural sciences graduate specialising in mathematical bioscience from the University of York. Her degree developed a strong analytical foundation and taught her how mathematical modelling and computational approaches can be applied to complex biological problems.
Her interest in health data science grew through an internship using deep learning to investigate protein structure prediction, where she saw how computational methods can transform complex biological data into meaningful insights. As the volume of health and biological data continues to grow, she became particularly interested in how we can make better use of the data we already have to answer important clinical questions and improve patient outcomes. Jiya will be studying for an MSc Precision Medicine: Genomic Data Science at the University of Leeds. Through her HDR UK scholarship with Kidney Research UK, she is particularly interested in acute kidney injury and the progression from AKI to chronic kidney disease. Her proposed research interests involve using longitudinal patient and biomarker data to identify patterns of disease progression and improve early prediction.
Following her master’s, Jiya hopes to pursue a PhD and build a career applying computational approaches to biomedical research, contributing to research that can ultimately improve patient outcomes.
