My name is Jadene Lewis and my academic background is in Biomedical Sciences (BSc) and Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology (MSc).

Data is so readily available now and in such vast quantities, that I believe that we can and should use this to our advantage in every sector, in order to improve and advance society as a whole. I greatly enjoy working with and analysing large datasets, using statistical models and programming languages, in order to uncover patterns, or associations or trends which can help answer important research questions.

As part of the internship, I am looking forward to having the opportunity to both apply and develop critical data science skills in a new and exciting scientific context.

Of particular interest to me is how various artificial intelligence techniques are being used (such as NLP and machine learning) to improve both individual and public health, which I would like to learn more about and be actively involved in.

With the plethora of skills and invaluable experience that I will have obtained from undertaking this internship, I believe this will well equip me for applying to data science roles within the healthcare field.
