Helen Thomas began her NHS career 27 years ago, initially working in finance, for the West Glamorgan Health Authority and later in both Morriston and Swansea NHS Trusts. She moved into health information in 2000 and worked on a number of change projects including replacement of the Patient Administration System, design and development of the Clinical Portal and electronic transfer of care process. She also led a programme of work to modernise the information infrastructure of the organisation.
Prior to her appointment as Director of Information in 2017, she was the Head of Information at Abertawe Bro Morgannwg (ABMU) Health Board, with responsibility for providing the information needed to evaluate service delivery and to support service improvement and transformation.
In this role she led the development of the ABMU’s business intelligence strategy and has been instrumental in driving forward information governance, health record and clinical coding services.
