Hansel Palencia
Hansel Palencia is the Clinical Data Scientist for DaVita International, a Healthcare Services company focused on elevating the health and quality of life for Hemodialysis Patients across the world.
Hansel completed his undergraduate degree in Data Science at Brigham Young University – Idaho and then went on to complete a MSc in Health Data Science at the University of Exeter. He has worked in many data positions across a variety of industries namely Education, E-Commerce and Healthcare.
His main interests lie in using Data Science methodologies to improve Healthcare operations and to combine both Clinical, Operational and Financial data to build predictive models. Currently Hansel is working on a large data transformation project within DaVita and is excited for those outcomes to be used for improving patient health in kidney care.
Hansel believes that everyone should have the opportunity to break into Data Science as there is room for everyone, and is a firm believe in data transparency and ethics. Hansel is also a fellow in the NHS-R community where he recently built and gave a workshop on Introduction to R-Markdown, and he hopes to continue the work of disseminating Data Science principles to everyone interested.
