Elysia Gregg is a PhD student in the Medical School at Swansea University. She has an MSc in Neuroscience in progressive brain disorder research, as well as a BSc in Psychology. Elysia currently works in the Environmental Health (ENVHE) team at Swansea University on her PhD in Biomedicine, investigating environmental risk factors, such as neurotoxins, in the development of both cardiovascular diseases and dementia. Elysia’s PhD project is funded by HDR UK Wales as well as EDI. Elysia specialises in Neuroscientific areas of progressive brain disorder research, particularly research into Dementia subtypes.
Externally, Elysia is a member of Centre for Aging and Dementia Research (CADR), a world class research centre that addresses key questions in ageing and Dementia research and care.

Research Driver Programme: Social and Environmental Determinants of Health

Title: Identifying environmental neurotoxic risk factors in the development of cardiovascular diseases and dementia.

Your motivation for undertaking the project:

My motivation for this project is derived from my passion of propelling forward dementia research through a reduction, and ultimate cure of dementia via the vascular pathways. Environmental determinants hold a vital role in this onset, allowing easily modifiable reductions in these disorders, whilst simultaneously fighting for the health of our climate. The crux of my drive behind this research is to positively impact the individual, by improving the likelihood of a healthier ageing process. By funding my work, my HDR UK funders are allowing me to invest my time in this crucial topic.
