Ruth is a senior researcher at the University College London Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. She is the Associate Director of the HDR UK Social and Environmental Determinants of Health Driver Programme. She co-leads SEDH Work Stream 3 – Health and development from birth to adulthood.

Her role will enhance existing datasets and develop research capacity using administrative data and electronic health records, including the use of the ECHILD (Education and Child Health Insight Linked Data) database for examining the social determinants of child and family health. This work builds on Ruth’s post-doctoral UKRI Innovation Fellowship at the Institute of Health Informatics, where I was the Deputy Leader for the Public Health Data Science Group.

Prior work has focused on using data science to examine adolescent health in schools, particularly those relating to stress, self-harm, violence, and drug or alcohol-use. Work has explored measuring and addressing physical and mental health inequalities, particularly for vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups such as homeless people and women with substance misuse
