Michael is responsible for NHS Digital’s work with researchers and the life sciences industry, ensuring that data can be used safely, efficiently and transparently to improve health.
His work focuses on enabling the use of data from electronic health records for health research and for improving the quality of healthcare services, and in ensuring that patients and the public are informed about and engaged with this work. He is an independent member of the UK Statistics Authority Research Accreditation Panel, a co-opted member of the Board of the Health Quality Improvement Partnership and represents NHS Digital on a range of other research and data related groups.
Previously Michael has held leadership roles at Health Data Research UK’s Cambridge scientific site, Cancer Research UK, the National Cancer Research Institute and the National Cancer Intelligence Network.
