James is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Nottingham. He has worked as a biochemist, both in academia and industry, for about nine years. During his PhD at the University of Warwick, he started using code to analyse data, and using machine learning to find patterns. As well as continuing his development as a wet-lab scientist, he also improved his skills in machine learning and bioinformatics.

He was excited to have the opportunity to put his own stamp on each of his academic projects, including bringing image analysis and deep learning into my experiments. His time working in a pharmaceutical contract research organisation gave him a new appreciation for the challenges of working with larger datasets.

Recently, James has started working full-time using his data science skills. Most of his time is spent developing a tool that uses deep learning to harmonise health data, though he is involved in a few other data projects.
