I am the Head of the Bioinformatics Training Programme of the University of Cambridge’s School of Biological Sciences, which provides advanced training in bioinformatics and data science, from undergraduate to continuing professional development.
I completed my PhD at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and carried out postdoctoral research at the National Institute of Health, USA. I then worked for several years at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), setting up the EBI’s training program in Functional Genomics and coordinating the development of tools and standards for publishing, integrating and mining large image datasets, across a wide range of modalities.
I am also co-lead of the ELIXIR Training Platform where I am responsible for devising a sustainable strategy for building bioinformatics training capacity across Europe, working in partnership with a network of professionals spread across 20 European countries. In particular, I am leading the development of a framework for measuring the impact of the ELIXIR training programme as a whole, thereby demonstrating the value gained form the time and money invested in such training initiatives.
