Dr Gabriella Rustici is Head of the Bioinformatics Training Programme of the University of Cambridge’s School of Biological Sciences, which provides advanced training in bioinformatics and data science, from undergraduate to continuing professional development.

Gabriella completed her PhD at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and carried out postdoctoral research at the National Institute of Health, USA. She then worked for several years at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), setting up the EBI’s training program in Functional Genomics and coordinating the development of tools and standards for publishing, integrating and mining large image datasets, across a wide range of modalities.

Gabriella is also co-lead of the ELIXIR Training Platform where she is responsible for devising a sustainable strategy for building bioinformatics training capacity across Europe, working in partnership with a network of professionals spread across 20 European countries. In particular, Gabriella is leading the development of a framework for measuring the impact of the ELIXIR training programme as a whole, thereby demonstrating the value gained from the time and money invested in such training initiatives.
