I am currently working as a Senior Information Analyst at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. For the past year and months I have had the privilege to work as a Genomics Senior Information Analyst at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust where I was the focal person handling genomics data in a stand-alone role. It was a thrilling experience where I developed numerous administrative, data and management skills. I completed my MSc Health Data Science at Swansea University soon after completing my internship as a medical doctor. It is during my postgraduate program that I applied for the Black Internship Programme delivered by HDR-UK, a program that really tries to give opportunities to people of colour like myself. I was an intern at the Office of National Statistics where I learnt a lot about applying a number of data science tools and networked with a couple of amazing data scientists that have worked on international projects with governments in Rwanda, Namibia to mentioned just but a few. Through the ONS, I participated in my first ever hackathon and that we managed to win as a group. This hackathon was coordinated by the Department of Health & Social Care. I can’t help but mention that my health data science journey was made possible through receiving a Chevening Scholarship. I intend to keep growing throughout my career in terms of knowledge, skills and experience, and utilise these to keep exerting positive change in the world.
