Alex Bailey works for the Medical Research Council’s Regulatory Support Centre in Edinburgh. He started life as an academic researcher doing a PhD in Bristol, and then a postdoc in Edinburgh.

He later worked in the USA for a couple of years before leaving to manage European research networks based in the UK and in Sweden. Dr Bailey then spent a decade managing the NHS Research Ethics Service for Southeast Scotland, and in that job he made sure that researchers received a consistent, efficient and rapid ethical review of their research projects.

Dr Bailey currently works with researchers, regulators, data custodians and research approval bodies to try and build a better health research environment.

He is an HDR UK Futures tutor.
