Anita Charlesworth is the co-chair of the NHS Productivity Commission, an independent commission supported by the Health Foundation. At the Health Foundation she was Founding Director of Research and the REAL Centre (Research and Economic Analysis for the Long-Term). The Health Foundation is an independent, charitable foundation that funds and undertakes research and analysis on health and care in the UK.

Anita has experience as a civil servant at HM Treasury where she was Director of Public Spending. She is a health economist who has worked in government, pharmaceuticals and the third sector.

Anita is vice-chair of North West London Integrated Care Board, which oversees NHS services for 2.3 million people. She is Honorary Professor in the College of Social Sciences at the Health Services Management Centre (HSMC) at the University of Birmingham.

Anita is a member of Council of the Royal Economic Society and Economic and Social Research Council.  She is a member of the Health and Social Care Select Committee Expert Panel and University of Bath, Institute for Policy Research Advisory Board.

Anita has an MSc in Health Economics from the University of York. She is a Trustee for Tommy’s, the baby charity, and chair of the Office of Health Economics. She was awarded a CBE in The Queen’s 2017 Birthday Honours List for Services to Economics and Health Policy and is a fellow of the Academy of Social Science.
