Professor Alison Noble CBE FREng FRS is currently the Technikos Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, University of Oxford, UK. She was Director of the Institute from 2012-16 and is also a former Associate Head of the University of Oxford Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division.
Alison has worked in industry and academia. Her academic research interests are at the inter-disciplinary interface of artificial intelligence (computer vision) and healthcare imaging. She has worked with clinical partners in the UK, India, and Africa on translational AI-based imaging science, and successfully commercialised some of her group’s research via a spinout company. A former ERC Advanced Grant recipient (2016-23), Alison was awarded a UKRI Turing AI World-Leader Researcher Fellowship themed around human-AI collaboration in healthcare imaging in 2023.
Alison is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (2008), a Fellow of the Royal Society (2017) and in 2019 she was awarded the Royal Society Gabor Medal. Alison is currently a Vice President and Foreign Secretary of the Royal Society. In 2023 she received her CBE for services to engineering and biomedical imaging.
