Ali is a Peruvian medical doctor with a MMSc in Global Health at the Karolinska Institutet. His academic journey has taken me from Peru to Sweden and now to the United Kingdom, where he is pursuing an MPhil in Population Health Sciences at the University of Cambridge. Throughout this time, my research journey has been focused on social epidemiology and causal inference.

Ali’s interest in causal inference has guided much of his recent research. At the CAUSALab of the Karolinska Institutet, he conducted my thesis project, which aimed to benchmark an observational emulation of a target trial against a randomised controlled trial. This experience reinforced his belief in the transformative potential of observational data. In parallel, Ali’s work has also focused on understanding the causal mechanisms underlying ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in child health in Peru.

For Ali, the Master’s Degree Scholarship funded by HDR UK in partnership with Kidney Research UK, represents a unique opportunity to further develop my skills in addressing research questions that ultimately improve population health.
