Warm welcome to Health Data Research UK’s newest Board Members

Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) is delighted to have four new members join our Board of Trustees.
Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) is thrilled to welcome Dr Prabhu Arumugam, Sir David Morgan Sloman, Professor Alison Noble and Professor Sir Nilesh Samani to the Non-Executive Board of Trustees. Alongside our current board members, they will help ensure the effective governance and development of HDR UK and provide oversight on the delivery of the Institute’s strategy.
About the Trustees
Prabhu recently joined Amazon Web Services (AWS) as Clinical Lead, after serving as Director of Clinical Data Imaging at Genomics England since 2019. With a background in medicine, histopathology and a PhD in pancreatic pathology, he has led key initiatives in cancer data, imaging informatics, and NHS England’s Secure Data Environments (SDEs).
David dedicated 40 years to healthcare management and leadership, retiring from his roles as Chief Operating Officer on the NHS England Board in 2023. Recognised with a knighthood in 2017, his career highlights include leading the Royal Free London to foundation status and guiding the NHS in London through the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. David now serves as a Senior Advisor to the IHI and holds several other professional roles.
On his appointment, David says:
“I am delighted to be joining the HDR UK Board, given the centrality of its work to the health, wealth and prosperity of the British patrons, public and economy.”
Alison is the Technikos Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oxford, with a research focus on AI and healthcare imaging. As a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society, she has commercialised her work through a spinout company and was awarded a CBE in 2023 for services to engineering and biomedical imaging.
Nilesh is a Professor of Cardiology at the University of Leicester and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at Glenfield Hospital, with a distinguished career including his role as Medical Director of the British Heart Foundation from 2016-2023. Knighted in 2015 for services to medicine, he has received numerous accolades and currently serves as a Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire.
