The Stroke Association announces new funding for COVID-19 and stroke research
The Stroke Association has today announced new funding for a research study investigating the links between COVID-19 and stroke.
This research will build on the work of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Data Science Centre at Health Data Research UK (HDR UK). The research will examine whether having COVID-19 increases someone’s risk of stroke, using health information from nearly all UK adults.
The Stroke Association-funded study gets underway this month, led by Dr William Whiteley, Reader in neurology at the University of Edinburgh. This research forms part of the CVD-COVID-UK flagship project consortium, led by the BHF Data Science Centre, which aims to understand the relationship between Covid-19 and cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke in the UK population.
