Seven Data Partners join pilot UK Real-World Evidence Network
25 October 2024
Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) is delighted to announce the outcome of a funding call for Data Partners to join our pilot UK Real-World Evidence Network.
The aim of this pilot is to demonstrate the potential of the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM) as an enabler of efficient cross-nation federated research studies, utilising health data from multiple sources. The Network Co-ordination Centre is led by Daniel Prieto-Alhambra and his team at the University of Oxford, working in partnership with HDR UK. Initial funding is to June 2025, serving as a proof of concept for a sustainable UK Real-World Evidence Network.
The pilot is now starting to onboard Data Partners following the recent call for funding. Proposals were reviewed by a panel including representatives from Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), NHS England, HDR UK and use MY data, the patient movement.
The seven successful applicants selected to join the network in its pilot phase are:
- Barts Health, led by Jennifer Lane
- Clinical Practice Research Datalink (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) led by Darren Lunn
- DataLoch (University of Edinburgh), led by Peter Hall
- Great Ormond Street Hospital, led by Neil Sebire
- Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, led by Vishnu Chandrabalan
- Leeds Teaching Hospitals, led by Geoff Hall
- University College London Hospital, led by Andy South and Steve Harris
The data partners will receive milestone payments for completing onboarding to the network, and further payment for each successfully completed study participation.
After characterising the contributing data assets, the network will conduct two exemplar network studies during its pilot phase:
- Use of antibiotics in primary care and hospitals; and
- Use of novel and expensive medicines in different NHS settings
In addition to policy relevant evidence generation, exemplar studies will help prioritise future developments for the network.
We would like to thank all applicants and the review panel, for supporting this call.
