Want to see how the Health Data Research Gateway can support your research?

Join us for a series of short, practical demo sessions over the next few weeks. Whether you’re new to the Gateway or want to discover more, these sessions will help you spend less time searching and more time researching!

The Health Data Research Gateway: Demo Series is made up of 30-minute sessions designed to help users get the most out of the Gateway, whether they’re new to the platform or looking to make better use of its growing tools and content.  Each session includes a live walkthrough and practical tips to support researchers using health and health-related data.

The first session takes place on Tuesday 29 July 2025 at 10am and offers a general introduction to the Gateway, including an overview of its key features. Future demos in the series will focus on specific tools, assets, or functions of the Gateway – sign up to a single or join for the entire series below.

Stephen Lavenberg, Business Analyst at Health Data Research UK and your expert host for these demos, says:

“We know the Gateway can be a great tool for researchers, but with so many features it can be tricky to know where to start or how to make the most of it all. These short, practical demos are about breaking that down and showing exactly how the Gateway can support different stages of the research journey. Whether you’re completely new or just want to explore a specific feature in more depth, there’s something here for everyone.”

About the Health Data Research Gateway

The Health Data Research Gateway is an online platform providing researchers with a simplified journey to search, discover and request access to health and health-related data and associated sharable resources. The Gateway is funded and developed by HDR UK and is being used by NHS England’s Data for Research and Development Programme to provide a ‘single front door’ for research access to the NHS Research Secure Data Environment Network. The Gateway does not hold or store any health or patient data itself, nor does it approve users to access sensitive data for research. A dataset on the Gateway is summary information, or metadata (data about data), about a particular dataset, not the data itself. Metadata published on the Gateway can be administrative, descriptive, structural, and technical. This information helps users decide whether the data itself would be useful for their research project and whether they would be eligible to access the dataset.
