So it was with much excitement that we welcomed our fellows among the 38 attendees, to the HDR UK offices in the Wellcome Trust Building for the Inaugural HDR UK Fellows Day on 15 November 2018.
The aim of the day was to bring together the community of fellows working across the UK, to network, share experiences, and discuss key areas of interest as defined by the fellows themselves.
The day was opened by Professor Andrew Morris and Professor Peter Diggle, and we were joined by Alexandria Nenadic from the Software Sustainability Institute and Professor Sarah Rodgers from The University of Liverpool. Alex outlined the importance of building capacity skills from within our field (working with the Software Sustainability Institute for example) while Sarah gave an inspiring talk about how to get ahead in an academic career drawing on her experiences from moving from a fellow to a tenured academic post.
It was fantastic opportunity to meet with you all, and I look forward to working with you in the future. We have created a dedicated Fellows channel on a collaboration platform called Slack, and are working together to bring a fantastic Summer School to be hosted in St Andrews from 19-23 August 2019.
Further details will follow nearer the time.
