Building a legacy for UK health data research infrastructure
A showcase event for the Digital Innovation Hub Programme
Tuesday 28 June 2022, Birmingham
In 2019, Health Data Research UK – the national Institute for health data science – launched the Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) Programme to establish the UK’s infrastructure for trustworthy data research. Funded by UK Research and Innovation’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, this has delivered impact for industry, the NHS and patients across the UK who are benefiting from medical discoveries and breakthroughs resulting from research using health data.
Our event on 28 June 2022 in Birmingham – Building a Legacy for Health Data Research Infrastructure – showcased the impact to date of the DIH Programme achieved through the outstanding partnerships of organisations and people across the UK to establish a strong foundation for the future.
In this free, one-day event, attendees heard about the latest developments in technology, infrastructure and standards that is supporting trustworthy research with health data. The event connected colleagues working in the data field across healthcare, academia, charities, industry and with patient groups by showcasing the impacts of the DIH Programme, including the:
- Nine Health Data Research Hubs – established as centres of excellence, providing a rich toolkit of health datasets, infrastructure and capabilities. With over 100 partners across the NHS, academia, charities and industry
- Health Data Research Innovation Gateway – the UK’s unified portal to discover and request access to health data
- UK Health Data Research Alliance – a growing partnership of leading healthcare and research organisations who are uniting to establish best practice for the ethical use of large-scale data for research
With a varied programme of talks and an interactive market place the event provided a fantastic opportunity to contribute to discussions and support the UK’s development of health data research infrastructure.
The event was held from 09.30-17.30 (followed by networking and drinks) at Eastside Rooms, 2 Woodcock Street, Birmingham, B7 4BL and the talks at the event were livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
