Better Care Events
Better Care Events are hosted on a regular basis, providing the opportunity for clinicians, patients, the public, researchers, and policy makers to network, share industry knowledge and identify opportunities for collaboration and scaling. Better Care Events aim to equip clinicians and patients across the UK with the best possible data-based information to help aid decisions within the Health and Care industry.
Special Interest Events:
Applied social care research using routine data – potential and challenges | 10 December 2020
On 10 December 2020, over 150 members of the social care data science community – including academic researchers, care providers and receivers, commissioners, and charities – came together virtually to discuss the current landscape of applied social care research.
Attendees shared experiences of significant insights and impacts which have already been realised by research across the spectrum of social care services, as well as the key challenges which must be addressed to maximise impact and emerging opportunities for the future.
The meeting was convened by Health Data Research UK and the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) West, a member of the Better Care South-West Partnership.
Patient-Reported Outcomes for Better Care | 23 November 2020
On 23 November 2020 the HDR UK Better Care community held a workshop in collaboration with the Trials Methodology Research Partnership (TMRP). The event considered the opportunity to embed Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) in routine practice. Attendees from clinical, academic and patient communities considered the key opportunities to use PROs to improve both care and research and the challenges for implementation and began development of a roadmap for next steps. Follow up events are planned and please contact Alice Turnbull or Paula Williamson if you would like more details or would be interested in attending.

Insight Sharing Days:
Better Care Insight Sharing Day | 16 July 2020
On 16 July 2020, HDR UK held the first Better Care Insight Sharing Day. The event brought together the broader HDR UK Better Care Community and provided an opportunity to share learnings and insights, identify opportunities for collaboration and consider how we can accelerate and enable the Better Care approach. The meeting demonstrated key areas where teams are progressing our vision of embedding the use of large scale data and advanced analytics to enhance and improve health and care and considered the opportunities and barriers in this area.
You can now read our post-event report, which highlights key themes, discussion points, and summarises the important outcomes from the day.
