International COVID-19 Data Alliance (ICODA)
ICODA brought together an international alliance of partners that united to harness the power of health data to respond to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Together, we sought to develop an equitable, trustworthy approach to overcome the challenges of data access and use to improve health outcomes through enabling a cohort of exemplar studies or driver projects.
Convened by Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), the International COVID-19 Data Alliance (ICODA) programme was an independent consortium of leading life science, philanthropic and research organisations uniting to respond to the COVID-19 global pandemic. ICODA was funded by the COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator Program

The ICODA programme supported researchers from 19 countries to access and analyse a broad range of health-related data types, enabling access to datasets from over 70 data partners. These projects addressed major research questions relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the effectiveness of community-based vaccination programmes and the effect of the pandemic on health service delivery.

Building on the ICODA programme, HDR UK has now convened the HDR Global programme which seeks to enable trustworthy data access, re-use and analysis in regions, communities and disease areas, where evidence to tackle threats to public health is lacking.
