Health Data Science Seminar Series
This series of seminars presents an exciting opportunity to hear about recent developments in health data science, generate ideas, and help build the health data science community. It is hosted by the ONS's Data Science Campus and Health Analysis Team in partnership with Health Data Research UK (HDR UK).
The series provides a dedicated space for data scientists, policymakers, health professionals, academics, epidemiologists, statisticians and other members of the data science community to come together and explore the potential of data science, to help improve health and health policy.
On Wednesday 14 June, the ONS Data Science Campus and Health Analysis Team are hosting an online seminar in partnership with Health Data Research UK.
The session will focus on health and privacy enhancing technologies (PETs), considering how modern privacy methods enable innovation in health data science.
Speakers include:
- Ben Goldacre, Director of the Bennett Institute for Applied Data Science at the University of Oxford, who developed the OpenSAFELY initiative – a fully open source and highly secure analytics platform for NHS data created during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Dr Puja Myles, Director of the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) service provided by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Puja will be presenting an overview of the MHRA’s research into medium and high-fidelity synthetic data applications including the use of synthetic data as a PET and privacy considerations around synthetic data sharing.
- The UK team behind the recent UK-US PETs Prize Challenges who will talk about how the challenges are driving innovation in privacy enhancing technologies, including applications to public health emergencies.
