Data Grand Round Webinar: Bayesian Profile Regression for Multimorbidity Clustering at Population Scale
Presented by: Dr Jim Rafferty, Senior Statistician, Swansea University
HDR Midlands Data Grand Round – Tuesday 21st April 2026 @ 12.30 pm [Online via Teams]
Session Chair: Fiona Pearce
HDR UK Midlands Data Grand Round:
The HDR UK Midlands Data Grand Round takes place each month at lunchtime for one hour, and participants discuss a specific research topic at each meeting.
The research topic of interest is presented at each meeting, followed by a Q&A session, which usually leads to an in-depth discussion.
The meetings are online [virtual meetings] and are recorded for any members of our community who are unable to join us, which are then made available to view via the HDR UK Midlands website.
The meetings are chaired by our HDR UK Midlands Directors, who give a short HDR UK Midlands business update at the start of each meeting.
Biography
Dr Jim Rafferty is a senior statistician at Swansea University, currently working on the MAGENTA project, developing modelling methods for understanding how pregnancy outcomes are affected by heat using the routine data stored in the SAIL Databank. His undergraduate and postgraduate education was in theoretical physics, and as such, he is interested in understanding healthcare data using mathematical modelling. Jim has worked on projects such as exploring risk factors for diabetic retinopathy, understanding the risk of mortality in people with type 1 diabetes following a severe hypoglycaemic episode, and the clustering of multiple long-term conditions. Before working on projects involving routine healthcare data, Jim worked on the epidemiology of injuries in professional Rugby Union and for a medical physics research company.
