We’re saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen last week, and offer our deepest condolences to the Royal Family and all those affected by this news.

Following careful thought, we’ve decided to postpone the event on 13th September to Tuesday 18th October in light of the UK’s period of national mourning.  If you were already registered for this event, you won’t need to register again.

NHS data: Latest strategies, policies, and what it means for your research

Since April of this year, nine major Government strategies with implications for NHS data have been published. While promising to see such progress, it can create a confusing picture for anyone wanting to use this data for health research.

In this webinar, we’ll hear from Jess Morely, Director of Policy at the Bennett Institute for Applied Data Science, who has synthesised the hundreds of pages, thousands of words, and numerous recommendations in these documents to summarise the overarching strategic direction for NHS data, and what it means for research.

We’ll also take a deep dive into how the NHS data implicated in these strategies can be harnessed to transform the conduct of clinical trials. Data collected as part of routine healthcare has the potential to improve trial recruitment, reduce the cost of data collection, and enable long-term participant follow up, but must meet strict regulatory standards.

Macey Murray, senior fellow at the MRC Clinical Trials Unit, will discuss the value of this NHS data and explain the steps that can be taken to use it, using two recent examples from her group to demonstrate the integrity and provenance of two NHS datasets.
